Hi there! My name is Emma Johnson and I am a licensed addiction counselor and marriage and family therapist candidate. I am so happy you are here! For as long as I can remember, human connection has been a passion and priority in my life. I started my journey to become a therapist after going through my own therapy and experiencing a lack of trauma-informed care. Acknowledging the lack of trauma-informed care was devastating - yet it caused me to realize I had a natural instinct to care for and connect with others. I realized that connecting with others on a deep emotional level was something I was already doing naturally and wanted to further pursue in the professional realm. Since building my career around connecting and supporting others, I can honestly say I spend my days doing something that makes me happy as I genuinely cannot see myself doing anything else!
I work from a collaborative and systemic perspective considering all of the inter-moving parts that may be impacting what is going on and together, we decide on the best course of action. I believe therapy is a unique and individualistic experience for each person, which translates into how I work with my clients. I strive to always meet you where you are at and incorporate a variety of approaches and interventions that could be beneficial in that moment. Some of the modalities and techniques I use include: attachment-based therapies, motivational interviewing, person-centered, solution-focused, trauma-informed, and strength-based treatment.
I have been working in the mental health field for the past six years and have had the opportunity to work with a wide range of populations including: young children, adolescents, teenagers, adults, premarital and marital couples, and families. The issues I have the most experience working with are substance use, body dysmorphia, relationship distress, grief, trauma, and behavioral challenges. In addition to engaging with numerous populations and topics, I have experience working at different levels of care including outpatient, partial hospitalization, and inpatient facilities.
In my free time, you can find me doing one of these things: Traveling, reading, snowboarding, doing puzzles, or cuddling my dog.
