You will check in with your provider and complete your vital signs. These will be monitored during your treatment. You will be given a nasal spray cartridge to self administer based on your dosage. This can be one cartridge (28mg), two cartridges (56mg) or three cartridges (84mg). You can rest 5 minutes between each cartridge to better absorb medicine. Expect to be at the office for at least 2 hours per treatment.
The most intense symptoms occur very soon after taking esketamine. Nasal inhalant medication is very quickly released into the blood stream. Symptoms should dissipate in about 30-45 minutes. You will be monitored through this time, for a total time of 120 minutes after treatment.
When first starting Esketamine treatment, you will have two treatments a week for the first 4-6 weeks. If symptoms are responding well to treatment, you may change to once a week for another 4-6 weeks. Total time for treatment can last up to 6 months. This will be decided between you and your provider.

You will need to arrange transportation to and from the treatment. You will not be allowed to drive after the treatment application. Avoid food the day of to prevent any possible side effects with administration. Provider will discuss which medications you can have before and after treatment.
